An update from Jason Viana of The Open Door on the first mobile pantry in Rosemount.

the open door shares the power of being an Impact Award winn

From Jason Viana, executive director:

The Open Door had its first mobile pantry visit in Rosemount, which was made possible because of Power of 100! Residents of Cameo Place, a subsidized senior housing community, were invited to receive fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs and more.

Nearly half of the residents attended, with about 1 ton of nourishing food provided to them. Following the event, 70 percent of residents signed up for the next one!

These residents will continue to be served by The Open Door every month this year as a direct result of Power of 100 members’ donations. The Open Door, our reigning Impact Award recipient from our Fall 2024 event, plans to expand to sister property Cambrian Commons in the coming months.

“This is all part of our effort to make sure every low-income senior living community in Dakota County has access to fresh and healthy food,” said Jason Viana, executive director of The Open Door. “Thank you for taking the time to care and invest in making our community a stronger and healthier place!”

We are blown away at all that’s possible when people come together to support charities like The Open Door through the Power of 100+!

From Gina Lindquist, executive director:

“Since winning the award in April, The Drawer has donated over 50,000 pairs of socks and underwear to our distribution partners, and over 1/3 of that was possible due to this specific grant!”

Here are some additional highlights that showcase the impact Power of 100 Rosemount made in supporting The Drawer.

  • Power of 100+ had its first service event, where our members (and some family and friends!) helped package bundles of socks and underwear for distribution.
  • Funds from Power of 100+ have helped purchase just under 17,000 pairs of socks and underwear – and The Drawer still has half of its funds left to use this winter. Its busy season starts up in October, when requests and the need rise – and almost double.
  • The Drawer recently conducted a survey of its partners in distribution. Here are a couple of the comments submitted!
    • "Having clean underwear and socks provides comfort and confidence for our clients. It allows families with restricted income to put their funds towards other areas of need.”
    • "Your donation is a true blessing to our men, women, and children, many coming in from homelessness. To have socks and underwear, and to have them be new, is a huge deal for our residents. Your donation also impacts our finances, leaving more funds to provide programming and complete care for our children"

Finally, Lindquist shared how Power of 100 was serendipitously there for The Drawer at a critical time.

“Right after winning this award, The Drawer found out we had lost a large funding partner, one that accounted for almost 1/3 of our annual funding. Winning the Power of 100 Impact Award not only helped us broaden our impact and connect us with new volunteers and community groups, but it helped us to physically keep our mission going during a time of uncertainty,” she said.

“It helped us continue to fulfill our mission without having to take a step back or lessen our impact/spread ourselves too thin trying to make it work. So, we are so grateful that this opportunity happened when it did!”

We are blown away at all that’s possible when people come together to support charities like The Drawer through the Power of 100+!

Foster Together MN - Fall 2023 Impact Award Winner

Foster Together shares the power of being an Impact Award wi

“Because of our involvement with Power of 100, we have made many connections and built new relationships with businesses and people in our community! This includes new Partner Drop-Off Sites for Abundant Goods (such as Thread & Clover), businesses hosting donation drives to collect high-need items, offerings of time and services to help improve our organization, vendor discounts and participation at our events, and being able to witness incredible kindness and generosity from so many people in Rosemount & nearby areas. Words cannot express our gratitude for the Power of 100 Women!” ~ Micayla Johnson, founder and board president of Foster Together MN.

Here are some additional highlights that showcase how Power of 100 Rosemount supported children and families through Foster Together.

Family Meal Support:

  • Purchased $1,000 in local restaurant gift cards, plus several restaurants donated a matching gift card. Many of these (such as The Clover and Las Tortillas) are located in Rosemount! These meal gift cards are given to families when a child is placed in their home.
  • Purchased a chest freezer that is stocked with meals for families from local food sources including Chef Neal’s Healthy Meals and Sweet Kneads Bakery.

Community Gatherings:

  • Hosted a holiday gathering with a meal, movie and crafts, and also distributed grocery gift cards and holiday gifts to support families. Connections through Power of 100 helped donate new toys and gifts for the kiddos. Funds were used to put on the event itself.
  • Hosted a Girl's Night for teen youth in foster families with vendors providing fun self-care and spa activities, as well as a meal from Grace Filled Table and treats from J&J Sweets. A few vendors, such as Lisa Handley Real Estate and J&J Sweets, were from Rosemount! Funds were used to put on the event itself.

Abundant Goods

  • Partnered with Bright & Bliss (a connection made through Power of 100) to plan and organize the storage space at the church where Abundant Goods is located. Funds from Power of 100 helped purchase additional shelving, cabinets, pantries and storage supplies. Bright & Bliss provided their services free of cost.
  • Purchased high-need items that were urgent gaps in their inventory, allowing Foster Together to provide essential items to the youth who come to shop. This included pajamas, underwear, socks, shoes, and winter gear.

We are blown away at all that’s possible when people come together to support charities like Foster Together through the Power of 100!
